Visits: Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi An, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City & the Mekong Delta

The perfect overview of this fascinating country : from the north of Vietnam with the capital Hanoi and picturesque Halong Bay, through the centre with the ancient charming town of Hoi An and the Hue ancient citadel, to the south with Ho Chi Ming City, the bustling city and the floating markets of the Mekong Delta.

Day 1 - Departure flight from UK to Hanoi

Day 2 - Arrive Hanoi

Arrival and welcome at Hanoi Airport. Transfer to check in at the hotel. Then, start to explore the diverse architecture of Hanoi and its famous 36 streets of the Old Quarter by a combined walking/cyclo tour. After walking around Hoan Kiem Lake you will enjoy a massage at a local spa. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3 - Hanoi (B)

Full day tour of Vietnam’s capital city, including Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed on Monday and Friday), the traditional stilt house and the revered One-Pillar Pagoda. After that visit Vietnam’s first university, the thousand-year-old Temple of Literature. In the afternoon, visit the Ethnology Museum (closed on Monday) where you can discover the diversity of Vietnam’s many ethnic groups. In the evening you will enjoy a traditional water puppet show. Overnight at the hotel.

Please note: Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum closes from 08 September to 08 November for annual maintenance.

Day 4 - Hanoi - Halong Bay (B,L,D)

Today will start early as you will learn the art of Tai Chi on the lakeside or in a park. The instructor will teach you some warm-ups and then basic movements. Finally, he will finish with a solo demonstration or a demonstration with some of his pupils. Afterwards enjoy a traditional Vietnamese breakfast – Pho. This is an excellent noodle soup prepared by a small, specialized local restaurant. At around 9.00, we start the journey to Halong Bay and arrive around noon. After arriving you will board a beautiful wooden junk for an overnight cruise on Halong Bay with an excellent menu of fresh seafood. Overnight on board.

Day 5 - Halong Bay - Hanoi - Hue (B)

After breakfast on board, we keep cruising on the bay. You will disembark late in the morning and then return to Hanoi Airport passing vast expanses of rice fields in the Red River Delta. Stop en route to visit a pottery village. Fly directly to Hue where you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6 - Hue (B,L)

In the morning, pay a visit to the Imperial Citadel. Continue your visit to a typical pagoda before having a vegetarian lunch in the pagoda. In the afternoon visit Tu Duc Mausoleum, one of the most beautiful tombs of Hue. It was inspired by the calm and is a model of Vietnamese traditional art. It is also an opportunity to learn about the history of Nguyen Dynasty and the French colonial period. Continue your visit at Minh Mang Tomb. Overnight at hotel.

Day 7 - Hue - Hoi An (B)

In the morning, take a “Xe om” (motorbike) to enjoy a leisurely tour of Hue’s lovely countryside. You will have plenty of time to enjoy the pretty country roads which curve around large rice fields, dwelling-places, and also the little country paths. Finally, you will come to a unique, Japanese-style tiled bridge that you will find similar to the one in Hoi An. Departure for Hoi An via the scenic Hai Van Pass to view one of the most beautiful panoramas in Vietnam as you look out over the central coastline. You will also stop at the quiet, white sandy beach of Lang Co. Arrive in Hoi An late in the afternoon. Check in at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 8 - Hoi An (B)

Take a stroll to visit Hoi An town, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site because of its unusually well-preserved ancient streets and homes. Set out to explore the quaint cobblestone streets of the town with more than two-century-old Chinese houses. Sites include the Japanese Bridge, the Chinese Temple, and Phung Hung Chinese-style trading house. Then you have some free time where you can visit the local markets or maybe have your own suite or clothing made. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 9 - Tra Que (B,L)

In the morning, cycle through the rural scenery of Hoi An to a small vegetable planting village located on the banks of Tra Que Lagoon (3 miles or 15mins cycling from Hoi An). Tra Que Village is known for its special aromatic herbs. Join in with local people in their daily work of planting and watering vegetables. Then learn to cook some local specialities, for example “Tam Huu” – combining shrimps, pork and aromatic herbs. After you have enjoyed your lunch return to Hoi An for free time. Overnight at hotel.

Optional visit to My Son

This afternoon you can take the optional afternoon tour to My Son – the most important Cham archaeological site in the centre of Vietnam. Return to your hotel in late afternoon.


Day 10 - Hoi An - Danang - Ho Chi Minh City (B)

Depart Hoi An to Danang Airport for the morning flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Welcome at the airport and transfer to the city for a visit to the ethnic Chinese quarter of Cho Lon with the Binh Tay Market and Thien Hau Pagoda. Check in at the hotel. In the afternoon, depart to Cu Chi, where you will visit the amazing tunnel network built by Vietnamese fighters during the Vietnam War with America. Return to the city at the end of the day. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 11 - Mekong Delta Cruise (B,L,D)

Departure from Ho Chi Minh City to Cai Be to board the Bassac boat at noon. Enjoy a welcome drink while the ship and crew are introduced then departure towards Cho Lach on the Tien Giang River while lunch is served. Rest on the deck – the bar will be open and all soft drinks and tea/coffee are complementary. After lunch branch into the Cho Lach Canal for 30 minutes of travelling through the traffic of sand and rice barges, to see fruit drying facilities and wooden ship building yards. Visit a village on the banks of the Mang Thit River, an opportunity to appreciate the way of life of the local inhabitants. Back on your boat and enjoy complimentary soft drinks and tea/coffee and you relax and enjoy the sunset. The crew will serve dinner while the Bassac is cruising Mang Thit River.

Day 12 - Mekong Delta Cruise - Ho Chi Minh City (B)

In the morning, let yourself be overwhelmed by the magic of Delta, which from the first light of dawn, will astonish you with its atmosphere and unique colors. Breakfast is available, while the ship is cruising to the Tra On Floating Market. Continue towards Can Tho for Cai Rang Floating Market. Check out and transfer onto a local boat to visit the floating market, the nearby arroyos and gardens. Arrive at Can Tho in the late morning and then travel back to Ho Chi Minh City. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 13 - Depart Ho Chi Minh City (B)
Free time until you are transferred to the airport for your onward/return flight.
